THE RECORD CARTEL GEAR CO-OP MUSIC PRODUCTION
Musicians helping promote musicians.
What is The Record Cartel? The Record Cartel is a group of musicians who work together to promote one another’s music at live shows.

How? By selling each other’s CD’s at our own shows, we help everyone’s music to reach a wider audience.

Why? The Record Cartel was started in 2008 by one guy who really loved the music his friends were writing and recording. He was looking for a way to help them out, and this is what he came up with.

Who? Any artist who would like to join, or any music enthusiast who would like to sell our CD’s, may contact us here: srr [at] jaymathes.com. If you’re a musician, please send us links to your website and MySpace page. For more info, you can always email us.

Once a few artists sign up, we will list them all here, with a picture, short bio, and audio sample.

The Details. If you’re a musician submitting, please keep in mind: 1. You have to have a CD ready to sell, and 2. We really, really like the music that we carry – we don’t just sell anything.

If we like your music, we’ll ask you to mail us 12 CD’s, to start.  No contracts - just our word.  (Contracts aren’t any good among friends, are they?)

Here’s how it works: The Record Cartel’s CD’s are sold for $5 each or any 3 for $10.  For each CD of yours sold for $5, you’ll receive $3.  For each CD of yours sold as part of a 3 for $10 deal, you’ll receive $2.  The extra money, in both cases, goes to the artist at whose show the CD’s were sold.

Once we get your CD’s, we’ll mail out an assortment of discs to you, for you to sell at your own shows.  When a CD is sold, write and mail a check to our headquarters, in Wheaton, IL – for either $3 or $2 a CD, as described above.  Don’t forget to make it out to “Swiftly Running Records”.  You keep the rest of the cash.  And please make sure to note which artist and CD sold when you mail the check.  We take care of paying the artists whose CD’s get sold.

Believe it or not, right now, none of the money from the sale of the CD’s goes into some sort of general kitty to help us pay for materials, inventory management, or any operations for The Record Cartel.  If this idea catches on, though, we’ll most certainly have to come up with some sort of a plan to make sure we don’t lose our shirts…

If at any time you want to get out of the program, just email us and we’ll send you your CD’s back.  (Please give us about a month to make that happen, though, because we first have to get your CD’s back from the other artists who are selling them at their shows.)

Again, email us if you have any questions: srr [at] jaymathes.com
